Molecular Sciences Software Institute
The Molecular Sciences Software Institute is a multi-university organization that is responsible for advancing scientific software. The Molecular Sciences Software Institute (MolSSI) is supported by the National Science Foundation. NSF commitment to scientific software hubs
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has announced a commitment of $35 million to improve scientific software and establish two Scientific Software Innovation Institutes. These institutes are meant to promote the development of new computational infrastructure that is essential for driving innovation in science.
NSF will use three different mechanisms to fund the approaches. The Early-concept Grants for Exploratory Research program is designed to provide high-risk, high-payoff awards that allow scientists to pursue ongoing activities beyond the scope of a single project.
The funding will also support a community institute that will focus on scientific software maintenance. The institute aims to build capacity for a new generation of scientific software developers. It will also serve as a centre for culture change in the scientific community.
