NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q Graphics Chip

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q design of a graphics chip is a power-effective mainstream GPU for laptops based on the Pascal architecture and it was announced in January 2017. The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q was a mobile graphics chip by NVIDIA, launched on January 3rd, 2018. Built on the 14 nm process, and based on the GP107 graphics processor, in its N17P-G1-A1 variant, the chip supports DirectX 12.

This ensures that all modern games will run on GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q. The GP107 graphics processor is an average sized chip with a die area of 132 mm² and 3,300 million transistors. It features 768 shading units, 48 texture mapping units, and 32 ROPs. NVIDIA has paired 4 GB GDDR5 memory with the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q, which are connected using a 128-bit memory interface.

The GPU is operating at a frequency of 1152 MHz, which can be boosted up to 1291 MHz, memory is running at 1752 MHz (7 Gbps effective). Its power draw is rated at 75 W maximum. This device has no display connectivity, as it is not designed to have monitors connected to it. Rather it is intended for use in laptop/notebooks and will use the output of the host mobile device. GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q is connected to the rest of the system using a PCI-Express 3.0 x16 interface.

Comparing it to the faster models, the GTX 1050 uses the GP107 chip, which was manufactured in a 14 nm process at Samsung. The clock is not the only difference between the regular GTX 1050 Ti graphics chip and the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q graphics chip. The drivers for the Max-Q version were developed for efficiency, and not performed only in Max-Q models.

There are advanced voltage converters for 1V operation, high-end cooling methods, and a 40 dB limit for the fan noise with clock adjustments to secure this at all times. Performance of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q

The performance of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q can vary quite a lot depending on the cooling performance of the laptop. Nvidia states that the Max-Q variant should be about 10 to 15% slower than a regular GTX 1050 Ti for laptops. Therefore, the GPU is most suited for Full HD and high-quality settings for games of 2016.

When it comes to performance, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q sits comfortably in the mid-range. While it does outperform many of its contemporaries in the mid-range price bracket, it also stays at relatively the same cost. Even now, it’s still a decent performer, though you may need to tone down quite a few of the settings on the latest triple A games.

For a direct comparison, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q outperforms GPUs like the AMD Radeon R9 M290X. It’s respectable performance, though when it comes to modern GPUs, it lags behind a bit. That’s not to say the performance is bad, but again, it’s mostly mid-range quality here.

As long as you aren’t expecting incredible performance, the GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q does fine. That is, of course, all dependent on the laptop’s cooling solution. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q is highly dependent on having better cooling to maintain its performance. Laptops with poor cooling will detract from the GPUs performance by around 15%. which is a significant drop in quality.

Power Consumption of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q

The power consumption of the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with Max-Q design is rated at 40 to 46 Watt and therefore a lot lower than a regular GTX 1050 Ti for laptops (53 Watt). This means that the Max-Q GTX 1050 Ti is also suited for thin and light laptops.

Reviews of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q has an intel 7700 HQ quad-core CPU with 16GB of DDR4 memory at 24000MHz. It has Windows 10 on SSD and no manual overclocking. The G-Sync is disabled. It helps it run cooler and quieter which is the main point of the Max-Q graphics cards.

It performed better at the lower setting levels which is due to the higher clock speed and there being less work for it to do. The gaming experience is much chubby on the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q. It needs medium settings to almost average 60 FPS.

Even the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q is almost able to average 60 FPS at ultra settings. So, realistically this laptop will give you an acceptable experience. It is very affordable. In terms of sound under full load the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q laptop was 51 decibels.

Specs and Technology of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q

The model on test here is MSI’s Afterburner edition. Rival card manufacturers will all use roughly the same form factor, creating single-slot, PCI-Express-powered cards that will fit into compact and low-cost builds. Perhaps more importantly, the 1050 Ti is also pitched perfectly at gamers who are using a desktop PC with no graphics card at all.

As long as there’s room in the case and a PCI-E slot on the motherboard, you’re good to go. The 1050 Ti chip is based on Nvidia’s Pascal GPU design, a recipe that’s already created a potent 2016 lineup for Nvidia that includes the GTX 1080, 1070 and 1060. It’s the first card in Nvidia’s 2016 range that doesn’t support VR gameplay; you’ll need the GTX 1060 to do this.
